At the airport, after Editi had kissed Akwang and was checked in, she began to feel emotional. She was going to miss Nneoma, Annie and Abas too. She’d started wondering what would go on with Nneoma as she will be away from her for quite a long time.
She would view her home from America and know what was happening. And even though she wasn’t comfortable with Abas leaving with her husband from the airport, she trusted Akwang very much. He wasn’t a cheat. She didn’t even know why she bought Buhari, it was a waste of money, she thought.
But it was going to help in the future when her baby is grown, and when she gets a nanny. She was going to see what the nanny was doing to her baby from wherever she would be.
As soon as she boarded, she’d realized that her phone wasn’t with her any longer.
She’d lost it somewhere she couldn’t remember. Her mind had gone on a trip to many places. She wondered how she was going to know what was happening in her house, and what if Abas decides not to go to her house? And what if she wants to stay back to seduce her husband? As soon as she arrives New York City, she would call her sister and ask her if she was still going to stay connected to Buhari as her phone was missing.
As soon as Akwang arrived the main road, he ordered Abas to get off the car and take a cab to her house. He gave her a few naira notes and said, “My regards to your family, your madam will call you when she comes back.”
“Thank you Oga.” Abas said as she alighted slowly from the car. Akwang drove off immediately, as if he was running away from someone.
As soon as he arrived his house, he fell back on the couch and slept off.
Angry with herself, Nneoma woke up quite late. She brushed her mouth, used a little cologne and rushed out to Editi’s apartment. She pressed the doorbell twice, and patiently waited.
The door clicked open, and when she saw that it was Akwang who opened the door, she gave a forceful smile.
“Good Morning sir, Your wife isn’t leaving yet?” She asked in a shaky tone.
“Good morning madam. I just dropped her off few hours ago.”
“Oh my God! Editi left without telling me.”
“I heard her saying that she dropped some messages in your inbox. Check your phone.” Akwang said.
“What about Abas?”
“She has gone to her family house.”
“Okay.” She said and was about to leave when Akwang asked, “Are you okay? You don’t look bright.”
“I’m fine.” She said hastily and walked away.
“Have a nice day madam.” Akwang said and locked the door.
He slept off for hours and when he finally woke up, she’d seen over seven missed calls from a foreign number. “Edy is in America now. Oh my God, let me call her.” He muttered and dialled back the number.
“Hello?” He said.
“Honey, it’s me.” Editi’s voice came in loud and girlish. “I lost my phone at the airport, I am currently at a phone store at the airport in New york, I just bought and registered this Sim right now.”
“Oh my God. I’m really sorry about that. Has Jerry come to pick you yet?” He asked.
“Yes. He is here with me now. He’d been waiting for me long before I arrived. Salma is here too.” She said excitedly over the phone.
“Oh that’s great. My regards. I will talk to them later in the day.”
“Okay. Please, always find time to check on Nneoma. I suspect she might be suffering from depression. Just check on her and try to call Jackson to come see his wife, okay?”
“Okay baby. I will. Take care of yourself and please don’t miss antenatal classes, the white doctors don’t joke with that.”
“Okay. I won’t. I love you.” She said softly now.
“Same here, I love you too.”
He hung up the call and smiled. He was going to be alone in his house for the first time since he got married.
